Le Bon Rang: the daily French-cities ranking game

Le Bon Rang is a free daily game about French cities: five cities, one stat, get the order right. Every day you play five rounds. The first three are rankings: you drag five French cities into the right order for a single theme, such as population, density, surface area, distance to Paris, distance to the sea, or northernmost, all from official INSEE and IGN records. Then comes a photograph of a monument to put a city name to, and a blank map of France to pin one last city on.

The five rounds contain 900 points: 600 from the rankings themselves (40 per exact placement and 10 per near miss), 150 from the photo round and 150 from the closing map round. Every perfect ranking adds 25 bonus points, and the three "6th place" bonuses can add another 150, so a flawless day scores 1125/900. One puzzle per day, with the same line-ups for everyone.

1. Every day has five rounds: three rankings, then the photo round, then the map round.
2. A ranking round shows five French cities and one theme, and the themes come in a fixed order: geography first (population, density, surface area, distance to Paris, distance to the sea, northernmost), then real life (median income, rent per m², cycling to work), then a round just for fun.
3. Drag the cities into the order the theme asks for, for example most to least populous, or furthest from the sea to closest.
4. Lock in your ranking to reveal the real values: green means the exact right spot, orange means one position off, red means further away.
5. Each exactly placed city scores 40 points and a near miss (one spot off) scores 10. The three rankings contain 600 of the day's 900 points, and every all-green round adds a 25-point bonus above them. Players are compared on misplacements and total time, and each round links to its data source.
6. Every reveal then opens one bonus slot inside the ranking you just solved and invites you to fill it: name a commune whose value falls between its two neighbours. The fewer of the day's players name the same one, the more it pays above the day's 900 content points, up to 50 bonus points a round.
7. The photo round shows a photograph of a monument somewhere in France and asks which city it stands in. You get 3 guesses and they are worth 150 / 100 / 60 points, so the first one is the one that counts; after 2 misses the round gives you the département, or you can buy it before your first guess for 50 points.
8. The last round shows a blank map of France and one more city: drop a pin where you think it is, and the reveal measures how many kilometres you were off, worth up to 150 points.
9. You can skip the photo round or the map round, and skipping never touches your streak, but you forfeit their points.
10. Pick your own city once and every reveal also shows where it ranks for the day's theme. Come back tomorrow for new themes, a new monument and new line-ups.
